I couldn’t agree more—make small changes that will LAST, rather than making yourself crazy & trying to do everything all at once.
This is so true! It can be easy to want to just jump right in as you learn all sorts of new things, but that can lead to overwhelm and then burnout. Great ideas!
Thanks Mindy! You’re absolutely right. I used to be notorious for that. This lifestyle has become important to me, so I now make sure to take things a little slower to make sure they stick. 🙂
I love this! I discovered Nourishing Traditions about year ago, which led to bloggers and it’s become a giant snowball since then. I am TOTALLY the monkey with ideas in a tornado. OOH OOH OOH! It’s nice to hear someone say it’s ok to take it slow instead of “switch to raw milk NOW or your family will surely die tomorrow!!!”
Karen, the blogs are what really suck you in! Daily there are so many wonderful ideas shared that it makes us want to do everything now. Slowing down helps us take a breath and think about what things are doable with our lifestyle and observe new changes to see if they really fit. I have started doing things like hanging my clothes to dry on nice days and making all of our toiletries and cleaning products, but don’t even think of taking away the TV or Internet! Making the right choices makes it stick.
That’s me! I want Little House on the Prairie with my modern conveniences. It’s a little hard to get my husband on board with changing all of our food, since it would take away his only real treats (extra butter microwave popcorn and store bought cookies).
I have started changing our cleaning products, since that’s my department. He doesn’t really have any say in what I buy/use to clean the house as long as it works.
By experience, I find that quietly making changes brings them on board faster than trying to convince them. 🙂
You can make some amazing popcorn with real butter and unrefined salt. We don’t use a microwave any longer, but there are a ton of recipes for microwave popcorn using unpopped kernels and a paper lunch bag. No more need for the scary chemicals and unknown ingredients.
Keep them on hand and let him know that you have the ingrdients for whenever he is willing to experiment. Maybe you can get some popcorn flavor recipes to try too.
I love that you are making changes to make your family healthier!

HI! I loved this post, and so did my readers! It will be featured at this Friday’s Small Footprint Friday. I hope you’ll link up again!
Thanks Dawn! I’m glad you liked it.
Just found your blog and I love your title! I have a bazillion allergies myself so I sympathize 🙂
This post is so great, especially for those feeling overwhelmed (as I certainly get sometimes) with all the toxins around us. I’d love it if you stopped by and shared this on my blog’s new link-up, Waste Not Want Not Wednesdays.

It’s nice to be surrounded by others with the same issues. 🙂 I’ll be happy to come over and share with your readers. Good luck with your new blog hop!
