What is Reiki?

Many ancient and modern cultures, including the Japanese, Chinese, and Eastern Indians have documented that life energy flows through the body for thousands of years. You may have heard it called Chi/Qi, Ki, or Prana. Ki directly affects our physical body, mind, emotions, and spirit. It travels within the body through pathways commonly known as chakras, meridians, and Nadis and flows around us in the form of an aura or life energy field. In the age of science, we've begun to prove it.

Reiki (pron. Ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning Divine life energy. Some other translations of Rei used by Reiki practitioners are Universal, Source, Spirit, and God. Reiki isn't a religion or belief system, so it meets you where you are.

The techniques were first discovered and taught by Japanese scholar Mikao Usui in the early 1900s. Reiki brings Divine life energy to the recipient to promote healing from within. Reiki energy flows through the affected parts of the recipient’s energy field to clear, straighten, and heal the energy pathways. This allows the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way.

Physical or emotional disruptions within the physical body can lead to imbalances in how Ki flows. You can think of Ki like blood flowing to bring oxygen and nutrients to all of the body systems, organs, and cells. This imbalance can disrupt the energy flow in related areas of the physical body, leaving it open to disease or injury.

But what if I have no idea what you're talking about???

Reiki can be a challenge to explain, and it sounds totally woo when most people try. You can't see it, touch it, taste, or smell it. It's a little like trying to convince people that microscopic organisms like viruses and bacteria are responsible to making us sick when you're the first one to discover it. It takes time, evidence, and experience. There's a growing amount of scientific proof available via the field of quantum physics, through special photography and machinery, and studies that confirm energy fields and the effects of energy healing.

There's also the overwhelming amount of experiences and testimonials that people share, skeptics and believers alike. The most common reactions are feeling incredibly relaxed and 'lighter'. Inducing theta brain waves and creating a balancing vibration (measured in Hz) can be incredibly powerful for calming the autonomic nervous system and balancing your energy pathways. I'm blessed to never have a client leave the table without feeling the change.

What to Expect

Reiki treatments are intended to be a deeply relaxing and rejuvenating experience. Please wear comfortable clothes and leave any expectations at the door!

You’ll lay fully clothed with shoes removed in a soothing and calming treatment room. The hour-long session will start with a deep relaxation exercise designed to place you into a meditative brainwave state. I will then move into a guided treatment that includes aromatherapy to activate the parasympathetic nervous system and calm the mind, sound therapy to help harmonize the body’s electrical impulses, hand movements over areas where I feel the subtleties of stagnant or dysfunctional energy that include resting my hands on or over an area of the body, sweeping motions, or other actions that help bring the energy into balance. Please let me know if you prefer no direct touch; the treatment is just as effective.

After your session, you will most often feel lighter, rejuvenated, and at peace. We will take a few minutes for water or a hot cup of tea to discuss your experience and share my observations. As an intuitive healer, I often receive information that goes beyond my training as a holistic practitioner.

After your appointment, be gentle with yourself for the next 24-72 hours. Drink additional water and add herbal teas if you enjoy them, take a warm Epsom salt bath, nourish yourself well with nutrient-dense healing foods like homemade soups and broth, and allow any shifting or releases to flow. Be fluid and embrace the healing process, but please call me if you have questions or experience anything that concerns.
