I am so tired today – falling asleep while doing dishes, just want to crawl into bed tired. I’m also very stiff and sore. Can you say detox with a capital D? Wow. I feel like there’s a red neon sign blinking overhead that says “Die Off” with an arrow pointing to my head. Brain fog has still not cleared out though I’m functioning marginally better than yesterday. My knuckles still feel tight and swollen and get worse at night. To top it off, I’m a bit short of patience today while feeling so crummy so being a good mom is taking up a lot of energy and effort that I don’t really have. Overall, today can just take a long walk off a short pier.
We picked up the stool test kit for Katie (to test for bacteria/yeast concentrations, parasites, and digestive patterns) and her doctor said no milk…ever. She’s our alternate doctor (two at the practice), and I’m learning that she’s a bit of a witch doctor herself. She is familiar with GAPS and has gone through a gut healing protocol herself (nice that the other doctor didn’t think to tell us that when we were there in June for Katie’s 3 yr check up). She said that she was off of the major allergens for five years, and, after three months of reintroduction, she regained symptoms and had to start all over again. I’ll post more about that in a separate post. I took that as my final sign to give up dairy for good. An occasional splurge a couple of times a year? Fine. Not at any time a part of my diet again unless I feel the need for it’s healing properties that I can’t get anywhere else. Am I sad? Yes. It’s hard to not feel deprived of all of those wonderful emotionally satisfying foods of childhood. Do I need it? Not if I want to get and stay healthy!
I feel SO MUCH BETTER after the workout and a detox bath!! I had been craving a clay bath all day and I added an entire cup to water much hotter than I normally soak in. It felt divine. I’ve also noticed that the swelling and water retention has gone down, so I’m back to baseline. Since I can’t measure or weigh myself for these 30 days, I’m not sure how much water I lost. I’m using the fit of a couple pair of pants to guage how the challenge is slimming me down for the month.
