Holidays are getting very busy around here.
We used to gather all parts of the family together for every holiday, but it’s getting more and more difficult.
It’s time for a new game plan.
This year, we decided to trade off holidays with different, um, sub-families so will be at my in-laws this Thanksgiving.
That means no heavy traditional American dishes that are set in stone. My in-laws are from northern Italy and give a nod to the American Thanksgiving but prepare dishes using their own background and influence.
Lighter, fresher, and celebrating the flavors of foods instead of covering them up with sauces, salt, and sugar. This is how we should all enjoy holiday fare.
Here is our Turkey Day menu (my contributions are in bold):

Smoked Salmon – served in a sauce of fresh lemon juice, olive oil, and capers
Cheese selection – brie, parmigiano, goat cheese with cranberries
Roasted Potatoes – olive oil and unrefined salt
Roasted Brussels Sprouts – olive oil and unrefined salt
Sautéed Carrots – sliced thin and sautéed in olive oil and unrefined salt
Cranberry Sauce (citrus and refined sugar-free)
Spinach Salad – fresh baby spinach, olive oil, red wine vinegar, unrefined salt
Polenta & Sausage Stuffing
Quinoa Stuffing (allergy and gluten-free)
Pumpkin Custard (grain-free)
Baked Apple Rice Pudding (refined sugar and egg-free)
