The day’s summary gets a little less succinct as it goes on. Brain fog begins to kick in…
We started this morning with GAPS Kitchen Syndrome (here’s a visual from a GAPSter braver than I), so I have the first load of dishes running in the dishwasher now while I eat breakfast. I forsee some extra time spent in there today, since Katie’s feeling better. Speaking of Katie, she went to sleep at eight o’clock last night and slept through until seven o’clock this morning. Bliss. She also feels much better today. I think after a bone broth marathon today, we just be just about back to normal and ready for full intro. I have two butternut squash that are just crying out for a Dark Days Challenge soup perfect for intro.
Katie’s so much better this morning already. This is the second sickest I’ve seen her yet. I’m very grateful the worst of it was short-lived. Her coloring is no longer pasty white with red-rimmed eyes, the cheek bumps (eczema) that she’s had for a couple of weeks are almost gone, her various scrapes and scratches are healing more quickly again (her skin is almost always very itchy and she scratches herself; we have an appt with our MD in two days to go over my food sensitivity test and talk about the possibility of the itching a manifestation of liver toxicity). Her increasing attitude issues are coming to a head where she is intolerant if she doesn’t get her way. Luckily, I understand why it’s happening and know it will disappear soon. After her almost return to wellness, the marked decrease in bellyaches is the best news of the day. It is such a relief. It was really bad before bed though and she needed Colic Calm to go to sleep. We’ll stay away from all fruit (except elderberry syrup and the acerola cherry powder I’m expecting any day), and harsh foods like grilled meat is completely out of our diet now. Non-intro foods are almost gone!
I’m pretty symptom-free. I’ve been having backaches when I wake up and a bit of joint pain again. My muscles are stiff but it’s mostly only noticable when I try yoga. My temper is much shorter than it has been in a long time and my patience has flown with it. The bellyache I had this evening followed eating an egg again, so eggs are now out for me also (Katie’s allergic/sensitive). My biggest symptom is I’m freakin’ cold. I’m cold all of the time again. Can’t wait til that’s gone.
We also both had detox baths. One quarter cup each of raw apple cider vinegar and epsom salts for Katie. 2 cups of epsom salts for me. I was super cold and didn’t finish mine. I apparently need ultra-hot while I’m so cold. We ran out of hot water so today we’ll stagger bath times.
Late evening update: Oh the PIZZA CRAVING!!! Wow. I almost caved on that one. I wanted breadsticks and a thin crust pizza so bad I could literally taste it. I was super hungry and wanted so heavy stick-to-your-ribs food with a side of quick energy. No sweet craving strangely enough. I relented to eat almost a whole jar of kalamata olives. That helped. Phew!
Custom probiotic (me)
elderberry syrup
Breakfast: cold rice congee (Katie); S.O.L.E. applesauce (me) no bellyache
Breakfast x2: boiled organic chicken with a bit of broth and Celtic sea salt (Katie) bellyache but more mild than yesterday
Still eating… (10 am): more rice congee for Katie, boiled chicken in broth and Celtic sea salt for me still trying to make my first soup
Lunch: a couple of bites of rice for Katie while soup cooled; soup of carrots, S.O.L.E. collard greens, and S.O.L.E. potatoes in chicken broth – potatoes are for belly-soothing properties – (added celery just for flavor, not eaten) no bellyache

Snack: raw organic apple (me)
Snack: hard-boiled egg, 1/2 grapefruit (me)
Dinner (kind of): rice in broth & boiled chicken, 1/2 grapefruit (me) bad bellyache for me; got too hungry but I’m sure it’s from the egg earlier

Late night snack: kalamata olives, applesauce (me)

I'm confused by your menu. Was that supposed to be gaps intro foods? Or was that from another day before you started back on gaps? Or are you not doing gaps?
We're inching into intro. 🙂 Katie has trouble digesting veggies no matter how well cooked and hasn't been doing well with meat either since she's been sick. I felt it necessary to keep potatoes and white rice in since they're the only foods that settle our stomach when they're in upheaval from illness. Plus, I had some non-intro food to finish up. I thought it would be better to start small and work our way into it. By the end of the week, we'll be fully in stage 1. Thanks for checking. If you were confused and spoke up, I'm sure there were a good many other people with questions too!
