What I’m Reading Around the Web (First Trimester Edition) 5-16-2014
Did you catch that? Yep, I’m looking at articles on pregnancy.
We are unexpectedly expecting!
After much debate, I had decided I really wanted to adopt our second child. The hubs and I wanted to have a biological child and adopt one, but then we went back and forth on the issue over the last 2 years.
Do we want one…do we want to adopt…am I healthy enough to carry another child…how much will an adopted child disrupt our household and will it negatively affect sensitive little Katie…
…and on and on.
So, we bit the bullet and I finally spoke with an adoption counselor 2 weeks ago about a sweet little girl very close to Katie’s age (6).
Exactly 7 days later, I got a big fat positive pregnancy test. Surprise!
Watch out for those Italians, ladies. 😉
Here’s what I’m reading around the web —
At 6 weeks pregnant, I have had some pretty wicked nausea. It started last week and hit me in the evenings. Not too bad, I can handle that.
And then it wouldn’t go away.
- According to articles from Heather of Mommypotamus (The REAL Cause Of Morning Sickness) and Katie of Wellness Mama (How I Avoided Morning Sickness) , magnesium is the main culprit.
Homemade magnesium oil didn’t work. Calcium/magnesium supplements didn’t work. Leafy greens sound pretty eww right now.
I have been trying every remedy out there and tons of gentle liver cleansing. After drinking some nettle and rose hips tea yesterday, it has almost miraculously vanished.
- This article by master herbalist Susun Weed talks about the benefits of nettle tea during pregnancy and also mentions that red raspberry leaf tea is the key to alleviating morning sickness.
- I also watched this sweet little video of a morning on the farm from Shaye at The Elliot Homestead. Loved, loved, loved it.
- Becky at Rooted Blessings has a webinar coming up that I’m super excited about. How to Use Essential Oils for an Amazing Pregnancy and Birth is on my calendar, and I’m taking notes. (It may stop me from asking her a zillion questions a day.)
- I’ve also stepped away from the Internet a bit and started reading Nourished Baby again. If you click on the link, I also share Katie’s story. My poor little bunny had a rough start.
