Note from Jennifer: This post comes from contributing writer, Paisley Hansen. She does a great job of bringing to light health practices that are easy, low cost, and can have a significant impact on overall health and chronic symptoms.
Earthing, also known as grounding, refers to having physical barefoot or bare skin contact with actual earth. Simply put, just enjoy a nice walk outside in your yard or the local park without the benefit of shoes or socks.
This is based on the concept that this contact will restore the electrical signal to your body that has become lost, and it will lead to better natural health .
Many people have reported significant and varied health benefits from engaging in this practice.
Improved Immune System Function
Everyone depends on their immune system to stay healthy, and it performs at its best when a good supply of electrons is being provided to your body.
When you have direct contact with the earth, the electrons will be conducted into your body causing it to become stabilized and grounded, which allows your immune system to work at optimum levels .
Better Sleep
Insomnia plagues many people who are unable to find relief from even prescription sleep medications that may carry harmful side effects.
Those who can get a good night’s sleep directly on the hard ground report wonderful benefits, but most of us aren’t able to get comfortable and actually sleep in this manner.
For those who want the benefits of sleeping on the ground without the discomfort, earthing sheets are available that you can wrap up in while still sleeping in your comfortable bed.

People using these sheets have reported not only better sleeping, but a cessation to snoring and even better dreams.

War on Inflammation
Many people suffer from chronic inflammation, and that is no surprise since it can be caused by something as simple as a daily workout or even yoga.
Unfortunately, inflammation has been linked to heart disease, cancer, cognitive and aging decline and immune system dysfunction.
Your body suffers from inflammation as free radicals build up, and the practice of earthing can neutralize the effects by using its negatively charged surface against the positively charged free radicals.
The electrons act in your body as a super antioxidant to help keep your body free of inflammation.
Better Heart Health
According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is among the top killers of Americans and actually takes more lives than any form of cancer.
Those who practice earthing claim to have achieved much healthier hearts.
Cardiovascular benefits include dramatically increased circulation, thinner blood and healthy blood pressure. This is due to the blood thinning effects of earthing.
What to Wear and Where to Walk
Everything you read may leave you believing you need to roll around on the bare ground stark naked to achieve the benefits of earthing.
While you may enjoy doing just that if you have a very private backyard or visit a nudist colony, it is definitely not a requirement.
You should avoid shoes with rubber soles as they will insulate your feet from the transfer of the electrons.
A barefoot walk is still best, but you can wear socks, cloth and natural fabrics and still get all the good benefits.
Beaches are often considered the best place to practice earthing due to the moisture that acts as a conductor. Other good spots include anywhere the grass is growing in a healthy manner or anywhere you can find good sand, soil or dirt.
These are just a very few of the many natural and healthy benefits of this practice. Many people report immediate health benefits, and others say it provides gradual feelings of wellness over a period of time.
Enjoy sitting barefoot with your child outside digging in the dirt or sandbox, take a barefoot walk on a sandy beach or just lay down on the grass on a nice day and enjoy the good feelings on your bare arms, legs and feet.
Chances are you are going to feel much better in no time at all.

Just wondering if the earthing mats are just as good? Any experience with them? Thanks!
I just bought my first one, so I’ll know this week how good they are! I’ve heard great things by friends who use them.
